After searching for the man responsible for a string of credit card thefts, detectives in Warsaw have their primary suspect in custody.

The Warsaw Police Dept. asked the public for help in finding the suspect involved in credit card thefts and fraud that took place in May. Police began investigating the matter after a victim told police three of her credit cards were stolen. An official investigation pointed police in the direction of Christopher Clapp, 30, for stealing and using the cards to obtain over $515 in cash and cigarettes.

Clapp rented a room from the victim the week prior to the theft but moved to the Travel Inn and managed to slip away from police.

Early Thursday afternoon, detectives received a tip from a business in Fort Wayne where Clapp submitted an application for employment. The business heard about the efforts to locate Clapp in the news and immediately contacted Warsaw detectives.

Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive officers moved in on the address listed on Clapp’s application and took him into custody without incident.

Two felony fraud warrants were issued for Clapp’s arrest, in addition to two more felony warrants in Richland County, OH for aggravated assault and theft, and a fifth felony warrant for theft in Missoula County, MT.
