LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Strong sales figures for Subaru could lead to increased production at its central Indiana factory.

Subaru reported August sales up more than 35 percent from a year ago, joining other automakers in pushing U.S. sales to their highest level in three years.

Subaru of Indiana Automotive vice president Tom Easterday says it is likely the increased sales will lead to more work in the coming months at the company's Lafayette factory.

The Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/Olwv4F ) that Subaru already plans to build 172,000 Outback or Legacy models this fiscal year at the factory. More production would mean more overtime work for the plant's some 3,600 employees.

The company announced plans in May for a $75 million expansion of the factory to accommodate more production.
