KOKOMO, Ind. A sweet shop run by Kokomo students has surprised their teacher by serving up a profit in its inaugural year.

The Kokomo Confectioners' Company was the first of its kind in the state when it opened last year.

The Kokomo Tribune reports 20 students are responsible for the candy store this year.

Students identify recipes, determine what to sell, bake the goods and even market them.

Culinary arts teacher Shelley Rust says the shop provides real business experience for students and lets some earn credit.

Participants say they hope to develop more diabetic-friendly recipes this year.
