The kitchen was heating up Friday as BMX riders took to the skate park to prepare for Brett Banasiewicz's second annual Stay Strong Pro-AM contest.

It's all taking place at The Kitchen Skate Park here in South Bend.
Professional and amateur riders were able to register and practice for the contest Friday.

Riders came from all around the world to compete, but more importantly show their support for Brett's recovery after he suffered from a brain injury while riding back in August.

“This means a lot to me and Brett and to our whole family. There is a lot of love and support for my son around the country around the world…" Says Brett’s mom, Lisa Banasiewicz

"Its crazy because when any rider goes down it really shows you how much of a family our sport is…" says Pro BMX Rider, Dustin Grice.

"He is an amazing kid, and just seeing him moving and recovering just like helps you live and it is so inspiring,” says Pro BMX Rider, AJ Anaya.

Brett was not at the skate park Friday, but his mother says he will be there on Saturday and Sunday. The event is open to the public, one-day passes are $3, and 2-day passes are $5.
