The best ice fishers in the state head to gather in Culver this weekend for Indiana's inaugural North American Ice Fishing State Championship.
They'll be competing to catch the best of the bluegills and perch species in Lake Maxinkuckee. The top 10 will advance to the national championship in Minnesota.
On Saturday, kids can get in on the action, learning how to ice fish from the pros.
The event is free of charge, and all of the kids will receive a free fishing rod. Plus they'll learn about ice safety and fishing techniques.
Parents must accompany the kids.
The event starts at 10a.m. Saturday at the Beach Lodge/ Community Park at 819 E Lake Shore Drive in Culver. They’ll have tutorial lessons until 10:30, and then head to the lake to work on fishing skills until noon.
