The St. Joseph County Police Department welcomed a new, lovable yet aggressive member to its team.
Panzer is the department’s newest member of the K-9 unit, and has been paired with handler, Officer Webb.
The dog was donated by Bill’s Citywide Towing, the owner’s widow, Karen Smith, and her step-son Officer Chad Smith were presented with a plaque to thank them for their support.
“They do it just to show their appreciation for the service they give they want to help as citizens, we are very, very, appreciative of that anyone is there to help us, that's what we want to do is build relationships with the community and business owners and work hand in hand and make our community better,” said Sheriff Michael Grzegorek of St. Joseph County Police Department.
Typically K-9 unit dogs are purchased from overseas for around $5,000. Unlike many departments, the St. Joseph County Police has their own K-9 handler and will train Panzer themselves.
