South Bend man formally charged for string of armed robberies

25-year-old Christopher Williams is charged with six counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted robbery after police say he held up several South Bend and Mishawaka stores.

Police say the robberies happened between April 3 and April 10.

According to charging documents, Williams would enter the stores displaying a weapon that appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun, but it was later identified as a BB gun.

He was arrested Wednesday afternoon, shortly after police say he robbed La Candy Shoppe on Mishawaka Avenue in South Bend.

After arresting Williams at his home, officers say he admitted to the robbery at La Candy Shoppe, as well as holding up Burton's Laundry Service, Jake's on the Square, His and Hers Family Hair Care, Jimmy John's, Tiki Tan and a South Bend Phillips 66 station.

Williams is being held in the St. Joseph County Jail. His bond is set at $500,000 corporate surety or $50,000 cash.
