South Bend gas prices spike

Many people visiting South Bend for graduation festivities at the University of Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College will be pumping money into the local economy, but folks skipping town to avoid the crowds better fill up their gas tanks now since the cost of gas is on the rise.

According to Gas Buddy, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.81 in South Bend. That is 18 cents more than the national average and higher than the cost of gas at most stations in both Indianapolis and Fort Wayne.

Experts at Gas Buddy say the pain at the pump is expected to get even worse: over the next 24 hours the site says prices in the South Bend area may rise as high as $3.89 per gallon. Several Speedway, Phillips 66 and Marathon stations have already hit the high number.
