South Bend Airport prepares for big game against USC

This is a big weekend for Notre Dame as they play arch rival, USC. It's actually one of the two biggest games of the season in terms of bringing in, out of town guests.

The other big game was a couple weekends ago when Notre Dame played Oklahoma.

Folks sometimes fly into Chicago and drive to South Bend others just drive the whole way, but a good amount of traffic comes right through the South Bend Regional Airport.

South Bend Airport Director of Marketing and Development Julie Curtis says they have additional flights this weekend and larger aircrafts to accommodate the commercial demand as a result of the game.

She also says the game traffic impacts business at the airport from increased car rentals to dining and gift shop sales. Additionally, she says game traffic has a huge impact on taxis operating from the Airport. It really is an entire team effort.

“The whole team comes together on game days,” she said. “Customer service is something we provide 365 days a year but its heightened excitement here at the airport during game days and we provide that top-notch customer service not only on game day weekends but throughout the entire year as well.”

On game days you can’t overlook the amount of private jets that come into the airport. Curtis says Atlantic currently has 64 reservations for private aircraft for this weekend. The largest this season was 215 at the Oklahoma game.

She says they do have people that will continue to make reservations right up until game time and also planes that will land without reservations, so it’s hard to give an exact number until after the game.
