Utility officials say crews continue to make progress restoring power to thousands of homes and businesses in the Fort Wayne area following last Friday's storm that toppled trees and power lines. But some customers won't have their power back until late Saturday.
Indiana Michigan Power spokesman David Mayne says 3,900 customers in Allen County were without power as of Thursday evening, down from 11,500 customers 24 hours earlier.
About 30 people were staying Thursday at a Red Cross shelter at Fort Wayne's First Assembly of God Church when temperatures hit 100, breaking the record for the date of 99 set in 1988.
Laura Stalling has been staying at the shelter with her family since Tuesday. She says it's sometimes frustrating, but she's grateful to have a cool place to stay.
