South Bend residents can get a behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day lives of the men and women who keep our streets safe.
The South Bend Police Department is looking for candidates for its 2013 Citizen's Police Academy.
It's a free nine-week program designed to give the public a better understanding of the department's inner workings.
You'll get hands-on training on the issues that officers face on a daily basis. The training will range from crime scene processing, narcotics enforcement and even a firearms training simulator.
Classes will be held every Tuesday night from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m..
Participants must be at least 18 years of age and have no prior felony convictions.
Applications are available in the lobby of the police department and online.
