A rehabilitation center got an early start on Veterans’ Day celebrations in Michiana today.
Servicemen and women of years past, along with those of the future joined together today to honor 15 veterans at the Rehabilitation and Wellness Center of Sanctuary at Holy Cross today.
The Fighting Irish R.O.T.C was on hand to personally thank the veterans for what they have contributed to the country, completing the day with a 21 gun salute.
One of the veteran says this kind of ceremony brings a smile to her face, “it means a whole lot because my dad was in the service...all my friends were in service, when I graduated most of the boys were in service but they could stay long enough to graduate from high school, then they went in the army,” she went on to note, “I did a man's job. If I didn't do it, a man would've had to. I took care of the guys for ya.”
Staff at the rehabilitation facility say hearing the veterans’ stories reminds them every day how much veterans have been through, and how important this national holiday is to them.
