The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraising campaign is off to a sluggish start compared to last year.
According to the Elkhart Truth, the fundraising efforts in Elkhart are about $4,000 behind where they need to be to reach their $100,000 goal.
Organizers have acknowledged that there is still a lot of work left to do, but they remain positive that they will reach their goals by the end of the holiday season.
Recent donations of commemorative silver dollars have given their efforts a little boost. Last week an unknown Good Samaritan donated three liberty silver dollars into one of the Army’s red kettles. They plan to auction them off, hoping to raise at least $100 per coin.
Despite the slow start, the organization remains optimistic that by the time the campaign concludes on Christmas Eve that they will hit their $100,000 mark.
