It didn't take long for temperature records to start falling in Indiana on Thursday with Indianapolis and Fort Wayne hitting record highs of 103.
The temperature soared to 103 degrees at the Indianapolis International Airport shortly before 2 p.m. The National Weather Service says that's the hottest temperature in the Indianapolis area since it was 102 on Aug. 6, 1988. The 103 breaks the previous record for the date of 101 degrees set in 1934. The previous high for the month was 102 degrees set June 25, 1988.
The all-time record for the Indianapolis area is 106 degrees, set in 1936.
In Fort Wayne, the 103 breaks the previous high for the date of 102 set in 1934. The all-time record high for Fort Wayne is 106, set three times.
