The proposed changes to Douglas Road have stirred up some concern among those who would be affected by the project. Tonight, members of the South Bend community will have an opportunity to voice those concerns with the County Council.
The University of Notre Dame introduced potential plans to realign a portion of Douglas Road to make it easier for pedestrians and students to cross.
Some residents living around Douglas say that the plan would shift more traffic into their neighborhoods. Their concerned that the project would shuffle the safety concerns to a new location instead of resolving them.
The public hearing is scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. at South Bend’s County-City Building.
Construction cannot commence until the County Council has voted to approve the proposal.
