LAPORTE, Ind. - LaPorte Police shot a pit bull mix whose owner says was attacking a smaller dog.

It happened Saturday in the 1600 block of K Street.

When police arrived on the scene, the pit bull was attacking a smaller pug that was screaming.

The owner of the pit bull mix told police to shoot the dog, if necessary.

When officers approached, the pit bull lunged towards a police officer, who shot one round, hitting the dog.

The pit bull dropped the pug from its mouth, but charged at police, who shot again, killing the dog.

The pug's owner says he believes the pit bull broke through a section of fence into his yard.
