Members of area police agencies gathered at a doughnut shop in Mishawaka on Saturday to raise money for victims of violence.
Local officers were stationed on the roof of Krispy Kreme on Main St. for the third annual “Cops on Top of a Doughnut Shop” event.
It serves as a fundraiser for the Family Justice Center of St. Joseph County – a one-stop shop for those affected by domestic or family violence, sexual abuse or stalking.
"Sometimes you may not be a victim yourself, but you may know someone that is a victim or a friend or a family member,” said Sgt. Kris Hinton, a member of the South Bend Police Department. “So, you come out here and talk to the police, the Family Justice Center, the officers, get to know about the services and hopefully help someone get out of that violent relationship."
Officers lowered buckets down from the top of the building to collect donations from customers.
The event runs until 7 p.m. on Saturday then continues Sunday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Several family friendly activities, from face painting to a doughnut eating contest, will be going on throughout the weekend.
And be sure to join 16 Saturday Morning tomorrow as our crew will be a part of the fun starting at 9 a.m.
