INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the shooting death of a race fan in a parking lot near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Indianapolis Star and other media outlets report Avory Johnson of Indianapolis was arrested by Speedway police on a preliminary charge of murder in the death of 25-year-old Max Levine of Kokomo.

Authorities didn't immediately return phone calls from The Associated Press seeking comment, but Marion County Jail spokesman Julio Fernandez confirmed that Johnson is being held on a charge of murder.

Speedway Police Lt. Trent Theobald said in a news release that Levine was shot in Coke Lot 1. He told the newspaper an argument preceded the early Saturday shooting.

Levine's mother, Janice Bickel, told The Associated Press her son was camping with friends.
