Phishing scam in Michiana

Another phishing scam is making its way around Michiana computers.

An email that looks like it is coming from the Better Business Bureau may infect computers with a virus in an attempt to retrieve banking information.

The fake email says that a complaint has been registered against a person’s business, or that a customer has submitted a review of their business, regardless of whether or not the recipient even owns a company.

The email then asks users to download a form and click a link, but doing so will produce a pop-up message claiming that your computer is infected. It then offers to clean your computer system for free, but still asks for your credit card or banking information.

Officials say that information will go straight to the scammers responsible for the email.

The Better Business Bureau asks that anyone receiving emails that look like scams to forward them to phishing@council.bbb.org.
