Members of the Elkhart County Council will not be seeing any pay raises this year now that an error has been fixed in the county’s budget.
The 2013 budget accidentally included a wage increase for seven officials on the board. This weekend the council subtracted $5,267 from the budget to remedy the mistake.
According to the Elkhart Truth, each council member would have received $752 extra this year. The board’s president John Letherman called the inadvertent increase an “oversight,” but also noted that a future pay raise could potentially happen.
Letherman also said that the council is the only organization within the county government that has not seen salaries restored to their 2008 levels.
The base salary for council members is $13,108 in addition to compensation for any extra duties each council member takes on such as committee work and additional meeting attendance.
