SOUTH BEND The siding of a parking garage in South Bend collapsed, causing a downtown street to close.

It happened sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning on Wayne Street, between Wayne and Michigan.

A South Bend parking garage owner has been ordered to repair the wall that collapsed overnight.

A pile of bricks can now been seen in the alley.

The city's building commissioner says the horizontal support pieces rusted and the bricks gave away.

The parking garage’s owner, Mike Coyne from Coyne Industries says, “We have to wait and see what the city inspector says, that's the next person that will be involved.”

They garage eventually hired Slate Masonry to fix the wall. Friday Slate will check the building for other “loose” bricks. The building was not cited by South Bend’s Department of Code Enforcement but could be by Friday.
