MISHAWAKA - Mishawaka Police don't believe the shooting at Hickory Village Apartments was a random act.

Newscenter16 was the first on the scene after a 27-year-old South Bend man was shot in the leg and hand shortly after 9:30 Monday night. Police say the shooting followed a robbery of the apartment. The victims told police they knew one of the three suspects. Police are still looking to identify the other two.

The first is described as a black man with a light complexion in his twenties, about five-feet-eight inches tall. The second suspect is described as a short black man with an afro, also in his twenties. Both men were wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

Newscenter 16 spoke with a neighbor who heard commotion and saw someone wearing a hoodie run off.

“There's a lot of commotion over there all the time so I didn't make anything of it, went back a couple minutes later, heard somebody trying to jiggle my door knob—they were coming in my house without knocking—which startled me when I came out,” says Jeff, who lives in the apartment across from the shooting. “I made contact with the young lady who lives across the hall way, she said she was waiting for the ambulance, so I knew something had happened with the commotion and people coming in and out.”

Newscenter 16 talked to police today about whether the shooting was related to two armed robberies outside the apartment complex last week. They tell us they don't believe it is.
