ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Fire officials are reminding people to be careful and follow rules when burning leaves.

In the past ten days, firefighters have responded to 20 leaf and brush fires in unincorporated areas of St. Joseph County.

That is even though burning leaves is not allowed by county ordinance.

There will be two amnesty leaf-burning weeks this year, one in spring and one in fall.

Only then will it be okay to burn leaves in a container, and not on the ground.

Otherwise, fire officials are cautioning residents to be extremely conscious of dry conditions and gusty winds.
