State police say officers spotted 26-year-old Justin Compton in the Vigo County town of Seelyville when he ran into a wooded area Wednesday night. Police say a Terre Haute officer using a search dog located Compton and shot him after Compton approached with a knife.
Vigo County chief deputy Clark Cottom says family members had told investigators that Compton had a terminal illness and had vowed that he wouldn't die in prison. He fled from the courthouse in Terre Haute last week.
