The status of a South Bend officer facing termination was updated to administrative leave with pay.
The Board of Public Safety approved the motion to reinstate Christopher Bortone to paid administrative leave. Bortone is facing disciplinary action for violating department police three times in less than two years.
Bortone was placed on leave without pay after a continuance his attorney requested ended up delaying his hearing until early December.
At a hearing this morning, the Board was informed that the continuance was requested due to the attorney’s, and not Bortone’s, outstanding circumstances. In finding out that the request was out of Bortone’s hands, his pay was reinstated.
