It’s a 1975 British musical comedy horror film that has the longest-running theatrical release in film history, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and its back here in South Bend.
You may remember this show was at The State Theater back in June but what's different about this one is that the entire cast is from the Michiana area.
The State Theater’s General Manager Andrew Elegante says they dabbled with the idea of their own local cast after the June showing did so great. He says it set the stage for something that could now be done every month.
They had auditions back in August and the new cast has been rehearsing once a week for two hours and on top of that they put in about 20 to 30 hours of their own time.
Elegante says the cast is made up of about 40 very passionate people.
The goal is to make this a tradition like it used to be in the 70's and 90's and if you want to show your appreciation you can always show it with donations.
“Crowd funding is a neat way for you to be able to say I like what you are doing and I’m sort of voting with my dollars, sort of appreciating what’s going on. In this case, this is again 40 people who are doing this for the love. They are not doing it for a pay check and so if people really enjoy rocky horror, they like what their friends are doing, they can support it,” says Elegante. “There have been a lot of these people that have been posting and saying how grateful they are to be a member of the cast and how nice it’s been that everyone has been so welcoming of them and has given them this opportunity and that has really touched my heart quite a bit.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is showing on November 8th at The State. Tickets are $8 and doors open at 11 p.m.
