An idea for an Elkhart County baseball stadium had been put on hold during the recession. Now it might be getting another at bat.

A professional minor league baseball team – coupled with a brand new stadium – are coming to Elkhart County in 2014.

The owner of the team, which will be named the “Elkhart County Miracle,” discussed the plans on Friday during a meeting at the downtown offices of the county’s economic development corporation.

He also announced the squad’s affiliation with the newly revived Northern League which is hoping to expand into the Midwest, East Coast and Canada.

Construction for the $6.6 million stadium is set to begin on June 28 with 48 games planned for the 2014 season.

So the miracle that will happen maybe on the field is never rule our team out,” said the team’s owner, Craig Wallin. “If it's the ninth inning and we're training by 5 runs with 2 outs, don't count us out, because we have some backbone in this county, and, on and off the field, we're comeback kids.”

Wallin did not reveal the name or location of the new stadium, but he did say that it would be easily accessible to folks throughout the county.

A formal announcement will be made in the coming weeks.
