Just in case you didn't think we got enough rain this week, Saturday, we got a little more. Some of the pictures viewers sent in vividly show how bad the streets were out there.
Some residents say they had never seen their street flood so bad, but in any bad situation you never know what, or should we say who, will surprise you.
“We came up past our garage and the water was up over our driveway, over our backyard,” says Michiana resident, Jeremy Applegate.
Something neighbors say has never happened before.
“This is the first time I think it’s flooded that bad,” adds neighbor, Tina Bishop.
The water was so high it went up to some peoples waists making some cars that tried to pass, stall.
“It was like a black SUV and there were two people in jeans, t-shirts just pushing their car though and they were soaked,” says Bishop.
Then, something surprising happened, something you may not see enough of these days, neighbors helping neighbors, even helping strangers.
“You know, we got out there, in the water, and we started going to town on the drains and all of a sudden it was a neighborhood get together in the rain, taking care of the water. So, you know, it was nice everyone came out and helped,” says Applegate.
Even with these guys waist deep in the water, braving the elements, just trying to help, and drivers still tried to get through.
“We had one guy start across the street and floor it and end up coming though the water and he just soaked us all,” says Applegate.
Creating a potentially very dangerous situation.
“He was going fast right between us. I was standing right here on this drain, and the neighbors were standing right over there on that drain and he floored it right between us,” continues Applegate.
Luckily, neighbors were able to clear the drains and the water was gone in about 15 minutes.
Neighbors say these flooding issues are something they are going to talk to the city about. They say one drain was so clogged with sand and dirt, it couldn’t be unclogged.
