Days after withdrawing a plea deal for a Kokomo man charged with killing his girlfriend, prosecutors have upgraded the voluntary manslaughter charge the man had faced to a murder charge.
The Kokomo Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/P9V8ES ) Howard County Prosecutor Mark McCann said Friday that pressure from Kelly Armstrong's family prompted him to charge Travis Funke with murder.
Court documents say Funke told police he killed Armstrong in July 2011 after they argued over drugs, but her body has never been found.
Without a body, McCann originally charged Funke with voluntary manslaughter
Funke recently reached a plea bargain under which he would have received 35 years in prison and 15 years of probation but that plea was withdrawn Tuesday after Armstrong's family expressed outrage over the deal.
