LAKE COUNTY A motorcycle rider was killed Monday in a crash on I-80, and there are a lot of questions surrounding his death.

Around 3:30a.m., 64-year-old John Arama was headed east near Gary, riding a 3-wheel motorcycle.

For unknown reasons, he was thrown from the bike, and remained in the middle of the road. A semi driver came along a short time later and was unable to avoid the body. Arama was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident caused a second crash on I-80. A 28-year-old woman from Arizona sideswiped Arama's motorcycle after he was thrown from it. It caused her to swerve into a semi in another lane.

The vehicle went up in flames, but fortunately both the driver and passenger were able to escape with minor injuries.

Traffic in the area was closed for four hours while emergency crews investigated.
