Mishawaka PD hold safety fair at Kmart

Mishawaka, Ind. Shoppers walked away with some peace of mind today, thanks to a safety fair at the Mishawaka Kmart.

Customers were greeted by officers, who were ready to hand out goodies to kids and teach them some important safety habits.

The event focused on everything from bike safety to reminders for parents about prescription drugs and their hazards to children.

Lieutenant Tim Williams from the Mishawaka Police Department says that direct contact with kids can go a long way.

“It's the interaction between officer and children in community I think that's the most important thing,” Williams said. “Giving them the coloring books and stuff like that. The books on the table are geared toward safety.”

Kids also got to check out the police cars parked out front, and try their hand at the coloring table.
