Michigan City township assessor who stole thousands will not serve jail time

Michigan City, Ind. A former Michigan City official who has pleaded guilty to stealing thousands in tax money will not serve any jail time.

According to the Times of Northwest Indiana, Mary Lombard, a former Michigan township assessor, allegedly misspent more than $42,000 of township money from 2007 to 2010.

She agreed to the conviction of misdemeanor conversion and will now be required to pay back the township some of that money.

Lombard reportedly did not seek the township board's approval when she gave bonuses to herself and other employees.
