Michiana woman's weight loss story to be featured on 'The Biggest Loser'

Five years ago, at 157 pounds heavier, Sheena York was planning the wedding day of her dreams.

But, what she saw in the mirror didn’t match up with what she saw in her mind.

“When I started planning the wedding and trying on wedding dresses, I just had a real awful wakeup call,” she said. “I didn’t even realize I had done that to myself.”

That’s when York decided something had to change and she needed to lose the weight for good.

She’d always been a fan of NBC’s ‘The Biggest Loser’ and used the show as inspiration. She started running and even decided to spend two weeks at a ‘Biggest Loser’ retreat in Utah.

“That helped me a lot,” she said. “We followed ‘The Biggest Loser’ lifestyle out there and that taught me a lot.”

York built on that success once she got home, working out consistently and changing up her diet.

Now, she exercises every single day – sometimes twice a day.

“I try to get up in the morning and run at least three miles,” she said. “And, then what I do for fun is CrossFit and yoga because I enjoy those things.”

She also made drastic changes in the kitchen, which took longer for her to truly embrace. After lots of yo-yo dieting, York adopted the clean eating lifestyle. She eats lots of fruits, vegetables and lean meats and eliminated dairy, wheat and sugar.

The changes haven’t always been easy, but York says the sweat and struggles have been worth the results.

Last month, she wore a bikini for the first time when she renewed her wedding vows with her husband in St. Lucia.

“I just feel like a different person,” York said. “I don't even know who that other person was.”

Through her journey to a healthier lifestyle, York’s also discovered her passion. She hopes to become CrossFit and yoga certified by the end of the year. And, she has her first speaking engagement at The People’s Clinic in Elkhart Feb. 10.

York’s weight loss story impressed producers at ‘The Biggest Loser.’ They’re flying York, her husband and her parents out Monday to tape a segment for the show’s season finale.

And, as a fan of the show, being featured as a success story is a dream come true for York.

“I was nervous when I first got the call,” she said. “I cried my eyes out. And, now I'm just so excited. I can't wait.”

You can catch York on ‘The Biggest Loser’ at 8 p.m. EST Tuesday on WNDU.
