A judge has order a mental evaluation for a southern Indiana man charged with killing three women to determine if he's competent to stand trial.
The Courier-Journal reports Floyd Superior Court Judge Susan Orth ordered the check for William Clyde Gibson III Tuesday in response to a motion filed by defense attorney George Streib.
Orth also granted a motion by Gibson's attorneys to prohibit him from most communication. He sent a letter to the newspaper earlier this month saying he was guilty of the three murder charges he faces and would accept execution.
Gibson faces two capital murder counts for allegedly killing 35-year-old Stephanie Kirk of Charlestown and 75-year-old family friend Christine Whitis. He's also charged with murder in the 2002 stabbing death of Karen Hodella of Florida.
