Memorial Children's Hospital receives $55k donation from golf tournament

South Bend, Ind. A golf tournament, held this summer in South Bend, is to thank for a more than $55,000 donation to Memorial Children's Hospital.

The check was presented on the hospital's helipad this afternoon.

The proceeds come from the 2013 Four Winds Invitational, sponsored by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and its Four Winds Casinos.

All of the money will be used to purchase a neonatal incubator transport unit for the hospital's Medflight helicopter program.

“Having capabilities like the helicopter service, like a mobile transport service for kids specifically is pretty crucial when you are that parent, who's got that kid, who needs that service right now and it’s that close by. I'd say that is pretty crucial,” said Kreg Gruber, Memorial Hospital President.

The Pokagon Band also announced that it will once again be the title sponsor of the 2014 Four Winds Invitational.

The tournament will be held from June 20 to 22 at the Blackthorn Golf Club.
