ELKHART COUNTY A massive barn fire in Elkhart County caused State Road 119 to close near Goshen early Tuesday morning.

It started at 6:40a.m. at Martin Animal Bedding on S.R. 119. The blaze ignited inside a large barn, which is used to store recycled wood that has been chopped into small pieces.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but fire officials on scene say the materials inside the barn are capable of combusting on their own.

Smoke from the blaze could be seen miles away. Roads in the area were blocked off, most notably S.R. 119, between C.R. 17 and C.R. 36. 60 firefighters from 9 departments were on scene. As of 8a.m. Tuesday, the blaze is under control, but crews are concerned about the water supply in the area.

After the blaze is completely out, they will have to knock down the structure and keep everything wet, to prevent it from lighting up again.

No one was injured in the fire.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
