MARION, Ind. A north central Indiana motel clerk shot during an apparent robbery has died.

WANE-TV reports an autopsy Wednesday on 31-year-old Amy Ginger of Poneto shows she died from a single gunshot wound to the head. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Marion police said Ginger was shot at the Ambrosia Inn in Marion on Sunday morning. Witnesses reported a man was struggling with Ginger before gunshots were heard. Investigators say a safe was taken from the motel office.

Grant County Deputy Coroner Chris Butche tells the Marion Chronicle-Tribune that Ginger was declared brain dead on Monday by a deputy coroner in Allen County. She remained on life support until her organs could be donated.

Poneto is a Wells County town about 30 miles south of Fort Wayne.
