INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Police say a man slashed two people with a knife in unprovoked attacks in downtown Indianapolis.

Police say 54-year-old Joseph Hicks of Indianapolis told them he was walking outside the Circle Centre shopping mall early Monday when a man came up behind him, cut his throat and fled. Hicks was treated at a hospital.

Officers also say 51-year-old Austin Minor was sleeping outside nearby when Johnson suddenly cut his face. He was treated at the scene.

Police later found a man matching the suspect's description walking near Lucas Oil Stadium. They say 27-year-old Larry Johnson faces two preliminary counts of battery. He's being held in the Marion County jail, where online records don't indicate whether he has an attorney.
