Man sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting at police

South Bend, Ind. A man convicted of shooting at police exactly one year ago will spend the next half-century behind bars.

Joseph Fuentes, 37, was sentenced Wednesday to 50 years in prison for attempted murder and criminal recklessness, among other charges.

His accomplice, Jaime Duron, 38, was previously convicted of intimidation for his role in the incident and received a one-year sentence.

It all unfolded last October when a call came in about a disturbance involving weapons in the 2500 block of west Ford Street on South Bend's west side.

They found the two men at the scene and ordered them to stop.

Duron listened to police but Fuentes fled in a car and eventually crashed during the pursuit.

As he ran away on foot, Fuentes pulled out a gun and shot at an officer a number of times.
