Man breaks into Simonton Lake home, makes meth in garage

An Elkhart County man is behind bars - accused of breaking into a house and turning its garage into a meth lab.

The bizarre incident unfolded in the 26300 block of Parkview Ave., near Simonton Lake, around 7:27 p.m. Friday.

Police say Connie Burdette, 49, noticed smoke coming from her garage. When she went to investigate, James Jarosak, 51, pushed Burdette to the ground, injuring her shoulder.

Elkhart County deputies and Indiana State Police troopers caught Jarosak, who has a Dec. 2010 possession of methamphetamine arrest on record, following a short foot pursuit.

Investigators say Burdette knew Jarosak – and gave him permission to store items in her garage. However, that permission never included the manufacturing of drugs.

Jarosak was arrested on suspicion of burglary, drug abuse, battery and resisting arrest.
