First responders from our area got the chance to hear first-hand about advances in life-saving medical services.
The 13th annual Memorial Leighton Trauma Symposium has been going on throughout the day over at Notre Dame.
About 280 participants turned out to hear from national speakers about approaches to critical care.
This year, the topic was how to deal with a mass casualty shooting.
“We always try to stay on the forefront of what's out there. Today we had a session about active shooter and what to do in a situation regarding school shooting and hospital shooting. We had Sheriff and Commander Tim Corbett all participate in discussion the change in thinking of mass casualty situations,” says Director of Trauma Services Greg Bingaman.
While most of the participants were from St. Joseph County, there were also representatives from Michigan and Elkhart, Marshall and Laporte Counties.
