LaPorte County Police are warning residents about a fake animal control officer.

Last week, a rural Galena Township resident was working outside when a white van pulled into her driveway. A man stepped out of the van and said he was from the LaPorte County Animal Shelter and needed to talk to her about her animals.

He told her that she had 48 hours to make improvements or he would have her animals removed.

He is described as 5’9’’ and about 180 pounds with very dark hair and a black moustache. The woman says it appeared that the man may have dyed his hair black.

The animal shelter cautions that their vans are clearly marked with LaPorte County Animal Control” on the doors.

Police say to call 911 if you sense something is wrong.

You can also call the animal shelter to verify identities.
