LAPAZ, Ind. Friends of a northern Indiana man killed when his clothes got caught in irrigation equipment say the farmer was likely trying to save his blueberry crop from a frost at the time of the accident.

Rick Pertics' body was found Monday next to the irrigation equipment on his blueberry farm near LaPaz.

Fellow farmers say that Pertics had lost his crop last year and likely was in the field this week to try to protect his berries from a frost warning.

Pertics' farm was one of two remaining commercial blueberry farms in Marshall County. His family has been one of the area's largest blueberry distributors for decades.

Pertics' funeral will be held Thursday.
