One of the largest back to school events of the summer starts on Saturday, and it helps hundreds of kids in need.
The Kroc Center is working with the South Bend Community School Corporation to kick off the 2013 Kroc Fest.
On Friday, volunteers unpacked hundreds of backpacks filled with supplies.
There will also be carnival games and powderpuff football.
About 2,700 people came out last year, and those who run the event say they’re expecting double that number this year.
“We love this at the Kroc Center,” said lead administrator Collette Webster. “We love this. We love serving the community. We love people. We love having them in our center. We love making people happy and meeting people’s needs. So, this just fits into everything that we are at the Salvation Army Kroc Center."
Any last minute backpacks and school supply donations can still be dropped off by tomorrow at the Kroc Center.
