A Lake County jury has recommended the death penalty for a Gary man convicted in the slayings of his wife and two teenage stepchildren more than five years ago.

The Times reports that 47-year-old Kevin Isom will be sentenced March 8. Jurors recommended the death sentence Friday following two days of deliberations. They could also have recommended life in prison without parole or a set number of years in prison.

The jury Tuesday found Isom guilty in the August 2007 shooting deaths of his wife, Cassandra, and stepchildren, 16-year-old Michael Moore and 13-year-old Ci'Andria Cole.

Isom lost his job shortly before the slaying and told police his wife had threatened to leave him.

The defense argued Isom was struck unconscious by the real killer.
