A man has died after crashing his car into a tree and utility pole in South Bend on Saturday night.

Shawn McClellan, 44, was pronounced dead Sunday morning at 6:45 a.m., as a result of his injuries from the crash. McClellan had been treated in the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial Hospital.

Just before 8 p.m. Saturday, McClellan was driving south on Twyckenham Rd. when his car veered off the roadway in the 2900 block of the street.

Emergency responders arriving at the scene had to use the Jaws of Life to free McClellan from the wreckage. McClellan was trasnported to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Investigators say that speed and alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash.

The South Bend Police Department is asking that anyone who may have witnessed the events of this collision to contact Lt. Eugene Eyster at (574) 235-9818.
