Hurricane Isaac's remnants have dumped their first significant rainfall amounts on parts of Indiana as the long Labor Day weekend begins with a damp start.

The National Weather Service says radar estimates indicate about 2 1/2 inches of rain had fallen by Saturday afternoon on southern parts of northwestern Indiana.

Meteorologist Brad Herold in Indianapolis says 1.4 inches fell on Lafayette during a two-hour period Saturday morning. About 1.3 inches of rain was also reported in Logansport, also in north-central Indiana.

Herold says the rainfall amounts Isaac's remnants are expected to bring the state keep going down as the storm's center remains parked over Missouri. He says up to three inches are expected to fall on the western edge of north-central Indiana and across the west-central, central and southwestern counties.
