A deadly house explosion in Indianapolis over the weekend is still being investigated by officials who say, they are not ruling anything out just yet.

One expert says resident should not be alarmed by a homeowner’s suggestion that a faulty furnace could be responsible for the explosion.

The owner of an explosion investigation firm says most furnaces have safety switches that must be triggered before any gas is used to begin heating the home. He says most of those furnace safety features would have to fail for a furnace to cause the type of devastation seen in Indianapolis.

Now, investigators are focusing on getting people to their homes.

“We're starting to see some long term progress towards making improvements towards safety so these people can get in, get their things out and hopefully the repair and recovery process can start,” says Adam Collins of the Department of Code Enforcement.

Saturday’s blast took the lives of two Indianapolis residents, and according to city officials, has left 29 homes uninhabitable.
