New information is being gathered as Notre Dame investigates reports of three rapes and one attempted rape on campus, all of which were reported in less than a month.
Three rapes were reported to Notre Dame Security Police in September, while the attempted rape was reported to an administrator.
By comparison, the University had a total of eight rape reports for the three previous years combined. On Friday, NewsCenter16 learned that two of these cases were forwarded to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office this week.
Both of those reports noted that the alleged victims were unwilling to pursue criminal charges.
University spokesman Dennis Brown says the allegations are under investigation.
He adds the number of sexual assault-related crimes was expected to increase because of Notre Dame’s efforts to increase awareness of what constitutes sexual violence and how to report it.
