Archbishop Joseph W. Tobin will be installed as the sixth leader of the Indianapolis Archdiocese during a special Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral.

Catholic leaders from across the country are expected to join representatives from the archdiocese's 147 parishes and civic leaders at Monday's Mass.

Tobin was named to the post in October. He succeeds Archbishop Daniel Buechlein, who retired last year.

The 60-year-old Tobin was a former high-ranking Holy See official who tried to resolve tense relations between the Vatican and U.S nuns before his transfer.

The Detroit native was ordained in 1978.

The Indianapolis archdiocese has about 225,000 Catholic parishioners in its 39 counties in central and southern Indiana.
